My Trip to the Big Apple!

First off, Happy New Year to everyone and all my readers, I hope you all had a good Christmas too!

If you have ever considered going to New York, I would definitely do it because it is one of the best places to visit in the world in my opinion and I think yours if you went too! There are so many things to do there, you would have to stay for more than a week to do as much as you could.

On the first day, my family and I looked around Times Square and the shops on the streets nearby. We started the day off early because of jet lag, when you travel back in time, you’ll find that you will go to sleep earlier and wake up earlier which in some cases in good because you can start to explore earlier and have more room to roam as the city is usually less packed early in  the morning especially when it is winter.Screen Shot 2015-01-14 at 17.01.24Screen Shot 2015-01-14 at 17.30.13Screen Shot 2015-01-14 at 17.02.57

These are just a few pictures that I took in Times Square, it’s nice to go into the park when it’s sunny even if it’s cold you can still enjoy the views that the park has to offer you. I can imagine that in the summer, it looks amazing, with all the green leaves on the trees, to sunbathe on the fields and to embrace the city’s rays.

Some of you may recognise this hotel if not, this is the Plaza Hotel. If you have ever seen Home Alone 2, then I’d definitely recommend coming here as this hotel was featured in the film. You can also look around inside, in case you were wondering, it does now look different compared to when the film was released but nevertheless, it looks stunning inside!

The picture on the left was the view of when we were standing in the queue, don’t worry if you do wait a long time, you’ll have a  lovely view to enjoy and musicians usually play along the side of the queue. You’ve got plenty to keep yourself entertained while waiting in line. I would go in the afternoon because on the trip back, you get to watch the sunset with the Statue of Liberty. It is   one of the most spectacular things you’ll ever experience!

When walking around in New York, it can be very tiring, I would advise that you wear comfortable walking shoes because they will ache at the end of the day. Fifth Avenue is full of a lot of shops and sights to see like Empire State Building, the Flatiron Building and Central Park.

These photos were taken on the top of the Rockefeller Centre/Center, you are taken up seventy floors in a lift, when you’re in the lift, if you look above you are able to see yourself quickly ascend to the top. Once you get to the top, you are greeted with breathtaking sights. There are thick glass windows that block you off from falling but there are gaps, just the right size to fit your camera lens, so that there isn’t an annoying reflection in your picture. You can then go up two floors to the top of the building and take as many pictures as you want, panoramic pictures are best to take from the highest point of the building. On one side you can see the Empire State Building and in the far distance the Statue of Liberty. Opposite is Central Park, on the top deck you finally come to realisation as to how big the park is. I did find it odd that there was a huge park in the middle of a busy city, regardless of the fact, it’s still a great place!

The Bubba Gump Shrimp Restaurant is a real place and it is situated in the middle of Times Square as is the Hard Rock Cafe, McDonalds and many other places to eat. You can purchase some clothing items in the Bubba Gump Shrimp Restaurant and Hard Rock Cafe, beware you are going to one of the most famous cities in the world so don’t be surprised when your bill is a large amount. You are visiting an incredible city, going there could be a once in a lifetime opportunity so do enjoy it and go wild because you may only visit the city once!

As you all probably know, New York is the city that never sleeps and it’s true. If you stayed there all night, you could stay awake without any trouble. It’s weird to see the sky pitch black but yet you’re surrounded by exhilarating lights at night! New Years Eve  is unbelievable! The moment the ball drops, confetti is released, everybody is full of delight as we all turn over a new leaf and begin fresh by starting it off in one of the best cities in the world. Overall, my experience was great there and to anyone that could go there, should go!

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing the pictures and reading about my experiences. Hopefully, you all should experience something like this in your life. It’s those moments in your life, that you have to cherish whether you travel alone or with loved ones.

Thanks for reading

  1. You are right – travel opens up many moments worth cherishing – I read a beautiful quote in the book “Egg & Sppon” – “You leave home, I have learned, counting the trip day by day. If you ever get to return, you count the trip miracle by miracle” – an amazing trip always feels like a miracle!
