People Are People

sir-john-cc-LGBT-History-month-1

People’s sexuality are still challenged to this day, I don’t think you will ever be able to find a person that is satisfied with everyone’s chosen sexuality. As the world has become more accepting of different sexualities across all nations, more and more people seem to have different sexual orientations e.g. lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, transgender. There are so many more varieties of people’s sexual preferences and it amazes me that so many alternative things could be thought of. Everyone has different tastes to one another which is what a lot of homophobic people must learn, understand and appreciate.

“Love knows no limits”. Love doesn’t need to be controlled by the law. I think that as long as whatever relationship you are in with another person, whether male or female, as long as you two are happy and have a healthy relationship together, there is no reason as to why people should be against it. Gay or straight, everybody deserves to be happy. We are all humans, meaning that we are entitled to our human rights. “Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.” There is more to this article but I would like to point out that everyone is entitled to their own rights and freedoms, the list shows what we as the human race are entitled to, homophobic people shouldn’t take that right away from anyone. In fact, no human should be allowed to invade anyone else’s rights. LGBT rights are human rights too. Marriage is also a human right, “men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family.” Why should the law be different for a gay, lesbian, bisexual etc person, we are all equal humans. Aren’t we?

I’m not gay but I do support gay rights because I believe in freedom of love. I believe that just because someone else prefers something different to us then why should they be discriminated against. We all have our different opinions on other things in life so why should sexuality be just a big argument, their choices aren’t harming you or causing you any distress. They shouldn’t be pressured by society and the media because they have a different view on something.

Unfortunately, same sex marriage still isn’t legal everywhere in the world, but people are continuously fighting for that fight and I hope that one day, people will be able to live in a world where everyone is equal.

I hope that this may have given you a different perspective on gay rights and that maybe you’ll perhaps think about other people’s sexuality and that you shouldn’t judge them.

Feminism is for Everyone.

feminism

A lot people don’t quite understand feminism. They think that it is when women over power, this isn’t the case. Feminism is when both men and women fight for equality rights. Some people say that women now have too many rights, in some parts of the world and still in more developed countries women aren’t being treated with the same rights as men.

Many famous women have spoken out for this gender. However, sexism is still present within the 21st century. At a young age, society teaches children how girls and boys should look and how they should act. We are taught at a young age that girls should wear dresses, make up, like fancy shoes etc. Boys are also taught that they must be strong, “manly”, that they shouldn’t  show their feelings or cry otherwise they won’t be manly enough.

Some expressions that I really hate are “you throw like a girl” or “just because you’re a girl”. So many guys use these, it really annoys me and it just encourages me even more to prove them wrong and that I as a girl can do something to a good standard and beat them at something. They don’t realise what it does to a girl’s mind. Society shows girls are only good for cooking, housework, sleeping with men etc. It sickens me that even now in this day and age, this still hasn’t been sorted out.

All over media, women are shown and often used as sex objects. They are shown that they have no feelings or emotions and that we have less power than a male in a relationship. There are many strong women in this world who have shown and proven that we can do something and achieve something for ourselves. The media shows that women should be slim, tall, be a certain weight etc. However, media has changed and now tells us that having curves is beautiful. What every little girl and boy should be taught at a young age is that any body size or shape is amazing and that their’s is too.

Gradually, women are getting the equality we want and deserve. I sometimes wonder why are we treated differently, so many women in the past have shown we are just as capable as men. During the Second World War, while men were out fighting, women were left at home to look after the houses, cook for a family, clean a house, work at factories, farms and to keep their country on it’s two feet. We are strong and capable. Even young women have shown that we are. Malala Yousafzai fought for women’s right to an education in Pakistan, she was unfortunately shoot by the Taliban but she luckily managed to recover from her wound and she still pursues her beliefs out women’s rights.

Society tells boys that they shouldn’t hit a girl back. Abusing anyone is not right. Hitting girls isn’t fair because we are “weak” but we are just as capable and strong as boys. Being tough, doesn’t make you any less of a woman. All stereotypes should be erased, they are a false perspective of a person or a group of people.

Feminism isn’t female supremacy, feminism is female equality in all aspects of our lives.

I hope you have understood the small section of what it is like to be a girl and can hopefully understand why we fight for equality.

Welcome to The Internet

120514_r22176_p4653

Last week, I saw a programme called “Cyberbully”. It is about a teen girl who uses a lot of internet and technology in her life. It has become a big part of everyone’s life. She has been exposed to too much of the internet, she then soon found herself in danger because of her past. An internet troll had hacked into her laptop, details etc. The person then confronted her past, she was provoked to think about it and take action. I would recommend watching it especially if you’re teen. If you have access to 4oD (Channel 4 player) you can watch it there. This programme has inspired today’s blog.

Welcome to the internet, it’s a place full of both good and bad things. It has affected everyone’s lives whether positively or negatively. At this current moment, there are 2,641,817,003 users but this is constantly changing, every minute, every second. Billions of people use the internet in different ways. Socially connecting, shopping, for work, emails and so much more. We are now living in a world where it is impossible for us not to use the internet or technology.

As humans, we have evolved to rely on the internet. I think it is safe to say that we perhaps use it too much and can sometimes get in the way of our everyday lives. We have become so reliant to it, it is hard for the majority of us to reduce or daily usage of it. It can be disappointing at times, that we have become subservient on the web, that we must rely on the something that didn’t exist forty years ago. Why must our generation and the ones to come use the internet as if it were a drug?

There may be a lot of good things about the internet but there quite a lot of bad things that weigh it out. Every teen and child has probably had the “internet safety lecture” by their parents or teachers. You’ve probably heard it so many times that you think that you are now an expert of the internet. You cannot truly say you know what it is like unless you have experienced it yourself. I haven’t experienced anything bad and I hope not but if you have you know what it is like. Whether it was your fault or not, it is still a huge danger and possibly life changing. You don’t what the “internet trolls” are like but stereotypically they are middle aged men targeting teens especially girls. They are geniuses at what they do and it can sometimes be hard to track them down. No one wants to ever experience any internet problems but the way to keep yourself safe is to always know who you are talking to, who you are letting follow you, who you’re friends with etc. Another way by staying safe would to keep all your information safe and to yourself. I may sound like a patronising mother but they are the ways to stay safe.

On the other hand, the internet has brought us so many good things for us. We are now able to connect to people all across the world in a matter of seconds, sometimes I think about how this is even possible. How can we communicate with some thousands of miles away in such a small amount of time? Humanity has changed some much, for the good and bad. The internet has made anything and almost everything accessible from wherever we may in the world. We use it for so many things, it has now become a huge part in our lives. I do admit that I can sometimes be addicted to the internet. It has definitely helped me in many times but maybe not so much in other circumstances.

Hopefully, all of you shall stay safe on the internet.

Peer Pressure

drugsGen_peerpressure1

I apologise for not writing my blog last week, I had an unexpected shift at work but no need to dwell on that. Today I have chosen to write about peer pressure as this was previously brought up earlier in the week and I think this is a reason as to why teens choose to do what they do.

Most teens are peer pressured to do something or try something new, in some cases the person being pressured wants to try whatever they are being pressured into and sometimes use the pressure as an excuse. Friends can sometimes encourage you to do bad things like smoke, drink, commit crimes etc. If your friends do pressure you or make you feel uncomfortable then you should know when to tell them to stop and perhaps you shouldn’t talk to them anymore. If they push your boundaries and don’t  know when to stop, then you should tell them and put them in their place. No one should ever make you feel awkward or uncomfortable in a situation especially a friend. You know where the line is and if it’s necessary, you should have to tell them.

Occasionally, people will give into peer pressure because they want to fit in with everyone else. Some people think being different is bad and that we should all be the same but that makes life boring. Another reason why people may give in is because people are afraid to lose their friends. If they were your real friends, they would respect and understand when they have crossed the line. You shouldn’t be ashamed or embarrassed to say no. You don’t have to be in a situation where you feel awkward, everyone has limits whether they are stronger than others, no one’s self respect should be taken away. “Good friends will respect your individuality”.

The media can sometimes also affect peer pressure. More and more things are becoming acceptable in magazines, on the TV etc, women and men’s bodies are being exposed more. I think because of this, teens think it is okay to push people to their limits and beyond. They don’t realise how people feel and think about the exposure and abuse towards teens because of the media, people don’t realise how much of an effect it has on this generation.

Your friends can teach you a lot about yourself, they help you develop and learn more things about you that you may not have known without their help. Friends can help you, support and motivate you to succeed with anything in life. However, some friends can influence you to do bad things because of peer pressure.

I hope today’s blog was an interesting read for you.

Can Money Buy Happiness?

92853-050-F089B26E

You have probably heard this question a lot. Many people will say that money can’t buy happiness but there has been some research; in some circumstances, money can buy happiness. It seems to me that most people revolve their entire life around money. I hate that this world has to be lead by pieces of paper because there are so many more valuable things in life.

“The love of money is the root of all evil”- Michael Jackson. This was spoken by one of the most famous men on Earth, unfortunately he couldn’t buy more time with the money he had. Some people can’t seem to understand this, they waste so much time to try and get as much money as they can. There are some horrible solutions in order to get cash and sadly some people would go to extremes for wealth.

A lot of people compete in the lottery, in order to win a large sum of money. Some of the winners hit headlines because they have wasted their money on alcohol and drugs. This is obviously the wrong way to spend your winnings but the best way to get happiness out of your money is to spend it on others because by seeing other people gain something good also has a positive impact on you too. Another way to use your money wisely is to spend it on experiences rather than material things. Over time, objects lose their value and financially too. Reliving your experiences brings more happiness.

If you think about the only reason we are educated is to get a job and in the long run, get as much money as we can. I know we can’t survive without money but some people get too obsessed with it and that’s what I don’t like about it. Too many people get sucked into the trap of money.

I apologise that this week’s blog was a little delayed but I needed time to think about what to write. I hope you enjoyed this blog and don’t get too caught up with money. Thanks for reading xoxo

Are We All In A Trap?

Apple-trap

You may or may have not noticed but nearly everyone around you or in this world owns something from Apple. You could probably see their logo from a mile away because this company is so common now in this century. Even if you don’t own anything from Apple, I can guarantee that someone close by does because let’s face it, who doesn’t own a gadget from this company nowadays.

Whenever a new item is launched it’s as if some people are in a trap to buy it because of the logo, if it was a Microsoft or Android product, it wouldn’t be as popular and to be honest I don’t why because other company products are just as good as Apple and dare I say it a little better but not many people seem to care. I have to admit it, I do think I am a little in this trap but I am not completely oblivious to any of the other good gadgets in the world too. Whenever you would get an update on your phone, you might find yourself going for an iPhone again, you might have your reasons for it but some people don’t want to try a new format on their phone so they like to continue with Apple.

Don’t get me wrong, Apple is a good company and make great products but sometimes I think people aren’t always aware of what this company are doing. They could launch a new phone, iPod or Mac with the smallest change to the previous one and tons of people would still buy the new product. This I don’t understand because they are essentially taking advantage of you and your wallet. More and more people enjoy their products; because of this, Apple is one of the richest companies in the world with billions and billions of pounds, dollars, euros and other currencies.

This hasn’t been my usual type of blog but I thought I’d try something new and see if you enjoy it. Thanks for reading xoxo

10 Daily Reminders!

IMG_4202

I feel like doing something different today. Here I commence with my 10 daily reminders to you.

1. Smile!- even if you are having a rough day (trust me I’ve experienced them). Try to smile because you don’t own all the problems in the world.

2. It doesn’t matter what others think- it really doesn’t matter what others think. If people are talking about your clothing, looks or whatever. Flaunt it, they must be envying you if they are talking about. You shouldn’t be ashamed of being of you, so enjoy yourself!

3. Don’t look back- don’t think about the embarrassing thing that happened yesterday or what happened in your relationship a year ago, the past is in the past and it should stay there. Take everything one day at a time.

4. You are human- no one is perfect, you will make mistakes but don’t dwell on them move on. You won’t always be happy but you know what c’est la vie (see what I did there).

5. Don’t give up- fight for what you think is right and for what you love. When you feel weak or that you are losing, remind yourself what you are fighting for.

6. You are beautiful- don’t listen to the haters. You are beautiful, whether that is appearance wise or personality, every person is beautiful in their own way.

7. Not everyone is judging you- not every single person you come across is judging you. Remember that everyone else on this Earth feels as insecure as you do.

8. You are enough- we’ve all doubted ourselves once or twice in our life, but we can’t change ourselves in order to impress someone. You shouldn’t change yourself in order to impress someone, be who you are. “Be your own voice, not an echo”.

9. You aren’t always in control- unfortunately, we don’t control life, it controls us but sometimes it’s for the best. You can’t predict when something will or should happen so don’t kick yourself when you do have bad days because we all have them.

10. Be fearless- is there ever something in life you regret? Bite the bullet and just go for it because you’ll never know what will happen until you do it. If you don’t do it then, you’ll think about what would’ve happened if you did do it. Don’t live in regret, be fearless.

I hope you enjoyed this blog and remember some of these things during your work or school days. Next week will be a special blog as it is my birthday next Tuesday so be prepared. Thanks for reading xoxo
