The Celebration of the Dead

Day-of-the-Dead

Many of you know that Halloween is coming up very soon, it got me thinking about the traditions of this international holiday. One of the main things about Halloween is dressing up and a lot of us dress up as the dead. Halloween is the only time of the year for it to be acceptable to dress up as the dead and to celebrate it. However, in South Mexico and other Catholic countries, Halloween is more commonly known as the Day of the Dead. Yes, you guessed it, it is a day in which the dead are celebrated. The Day of the Dead is a day full of festivals, food and families reuniting.

All around the world, almost everyone celebrates Halloween whether it differentiate from one nation to another. Everyone has their different ways of spending Halloween other it be partying or having a horror film marathon, we all do something different. Something got me thinking is that, we all love to celebrate the dead one specific day but any other day, people are afraid of death. If you were to ask a few people, what one of their greatest fears in their life is, most of them would say that death is what they are most afraid of. Now, if you had asked me that question this time last year, I would have probably said the same thing but now I have realised that death is something that you should not fear. Granted, you are taken away from your family and friends but all good things must come to an end. Death is inevitable and a natural part of the life cycle. Everything and everyone will die, that’s just life.

There is nothing you can do to stop it but you can use your one chance of life and use it well. You can use this chance to fulfil everything you’ve ever wanted to in life. You can control your life and time’ll just run away with you too. If you have been staring at your computer or phone screen for the past few hours, turn it off now and get out there. You only have a limited amount of time, don’t waste it by looking at a screen all your life. Explore a little, do something new, broaden your horizons, you never know what you’ll find! That said, this would be a good time to finish and for the both of us to head out into the world.

An Update…

Screen Shot 2015-06-03 at 17.52.03

These past few months, I haven’t been able to write much because it is getting to that point in my life where there are exams coming up soon and my school work has to be my priority at the moment. Despite that I still would love to continue with this blog but I may not be able to write as many posts as frequently.

Hopefully, I will be able to find some free time and write a few posts but if not, I will try to catch up with them in the near future.

As always thanks for reading and I hope you understand.

Send Friend Request?

I think that it is important that we all broaden our horizons a little bit, and what a better way to do that than to meet new people and make friends. I think this is because our society is surrounded by so much technology, we forget that we have lacked in the socialising department. We do use a lot of social media sites but what I think that counts is communicating face to face. Not only is it better to spend time with each other face to face, but you also are getting away from technology and creating memories with people that you’ll never forget.

I know that it can be hard to be apart from your laptop, phone etc but it is good for you to spend free time from it and one of the best ways to do this is to meet new people, make friends, explore your town/city etc. We all live in oblivion. We have forgotten that other humans do exist in the real world and that we can meet them in person and actually communicate with them.

If you do go to clubs with other people that have the same common interests as you then you can always start a conversation with them, you’ll never know where you and that person could end up. Approaching people is definitely a confidence booster, as soon as you know you can approach someone and start a conversation with them, you’ll gradually become more confident within yourself. Meeting new people is fun especially if done in an environment you enjoy. One important thing to remember when meeting new people, you shouldn’t be too forceful or have high expectations of them. You two or possible more are gradually getting to know each other and it’s important to show that you can respect them and their decisions when getting to know each other.

A lot of friendships and meeting new people is done over the internet. Some people find it easier to communicate over the internet. I suppose if you or the other person/people are nervous, anxious etc, it might be best to start talking to each other online so that you can kick start your relationship feeling a little more confident than you rather would in person. It is important to meet people in person but I think another way to maintain your friendship when not together would be by using social media. There are pros and cons to using the internet but it is a great way to support each other if you aren’t there with them, to make plans etc. The danger though is when you only talk to each other via social media. It wouldn’t be a healthy relationship, if you two wouldn’t be able to spend time together in the real world. It can be hard to pluck the courage to talk to one another if you are used to talking to each other by text etc. It is important to know that your friendship isn’t going to end up anywhere if neither of you talk to one another, once you do you’ll feel more relaxed and comfortable around them. It only gets better from that moment.

I hope that you all experience something new and great everyday of your life. Life is all about learning and living through wonderful moments with different people by your side. Cherish all the people around you and your future family and friends.

People Are People

sir-john-cc-LGBT-History-month-1

People’s sexuality are still challenged to this day, I don’t think you will ever be able to find a person that is satisfied with everyone’s chosen sexuality. As the world has become more accepting of different sexualities across all nations, more and more people seem to have different sexual orientations e.g. lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, transgender. There are so many more varieties of people’s sexual preferences and it amazes me that so many alternative things could be thought of. Everyone has different tastes to one another which is what a lot of homophobic people must learn, understand and appreciate.

“Love knows no limits”. Love doesn’t need to be controlled by the law. I think that as long as whatever relationship you are in with another person, whether male or female, as long as you two are happy and have a healthy relationship together, there is no reason as to why people should be against it. Gay or straight, everybody deserves to be happy. We are all humans, meaning that we are entitled to our human rights. “Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.” There is more to this article but I would like to point out that everyone is entitled to their own rights and freedoms, the list shows what we as the human race are entitled to, homophobic people shouldn’t take that right away from anyone. In fact, no human should be allowed to invade anyone else’s rights. LGBT rights are human rights too. Marriage is also a human right, “men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family.” Why should the law be different for a gay, lesbian, bisexual etc person, we are all equal humans. Aren’t we?

I’m not gay but I do support gay rights because I believe in freedom of love. I believe that just because someone else prefers something different to us then why should they be discriminated against. We all have our different opinions on other things in life so why should sexuality be just a big argument, their choices aren’t harming you or causing you any distress. They shouldn’t be pressured by society and the media because they have a different view on something.

Unfortunately, same sex marriage still isn’t legal everywhere in the world, but people are continuously fighting for that fight and I hope that one day, people will be able to live in a world where everyone is equal.

I hope that this may have given you a different perspective on gay rights and that maybe you’ll perhaps think about other people’s sexuality and that you shouldn’t judge them.

It truly means a lot and I can’t wait to see the many journeys I’ll take while writing here for another year.

“Never Grow Up”

tumblr_mfpl2ecqsm1qmombbo1_500-1

It has recently occurred to me that in less of a year’s time, I will have made so pretty big choices for my education and maybe even my life. I haven’t thought about what will happen in the future and it has suddenly hit me that I’m going to have to keep making important decisions from now on.

I already have two jobs at this age, I think as for someone my age that I have taken quite a lot of responsibility as well as school work. I am working for myself to earn money, who ever is reading this whether you’ve had a job yet or not, whenever it comes to getting paid. I get this little hit of satisfaction that I have maintained to fulfil my job. I feel as if I am maturing everyday when I take on the responsibility to work. Later on in the year, I will have completed work experience. In case, you don’t know it is when you apply to work at a business or anywhere that’ll accept you to work for a week to two. This is a taster of what having a job would actually be like and it can be put on your CV, which shows that you have had experience in a job environment.

A lot of exams will be coming up, a lot of care and practice has been going into them but on that one day it’ll come to the time where I am faced with the test paper and a limited amount of time to prove my intelligence. Growing up into the real world is happening all too quickly…

Today was a bit of eye opener, I hope you realise that you should cherish your time and waste your time while you’re young, free and able to do anything.

My Trip to the Big Apple!

First off, Happy New Year to everyone and all my readers, I hope you all had a good Christmas too!

If you have ever considered going to New York, I would definitely do it because it is one of the best places to visit in the world in my opinion and I think yours if you went too! There are so many things to do there, you would have to stay for more than a week to do as much as you could.

Screen Shot 2015-01-14 at 17.01.08

On the first day, my family and I looked around Times Square and the shops on the streets nearby. We started the day off early because of jet lag, when you travel back in time, you’ll find that you will go to sleep earlier and wake up earlier which in some cases in good because you can start to explore earlier and have more room to roam as the city is usually less packed early in  the morning especially when it is winter.Screen Shot 2015-01-14 at 17.01.24Screen Shot 2015-01-14 at 17.30.13Screen Shot 2015-01-14 at 17.02.57

These are just a few pictures that I took in Times Square, it’s nice to go into the park when it’s sunny even if it’s cold you can still enjoy the views that the park has to offer you. I can imagine that in the summer, it looks amazing, with all the green leaves on the trees, to sunbathe on the fields and to embrace the city’s rays.

Some of you may recognise this hotel if not, this is the Plaza Hotel. If you have ever seen Home Alone 2, then I’d definitely recommend coming here as this hotel was featured in the film. You can also look around inside, in case you were wondering, it does now look different compared to when the film was released but nevertheless, it looks stunning inside!

The picture on the left was the view of when we were standing in the queue, don’t worry if you do wait a long time, you’ll have a  lovely view to enjoy and musicians usually play along the side of the queue. You’ve got plenty to keep yourself entertained while waiting in line. I would go in the afternoon because on the trip back, you get to watch the sunset with the Statue of Liberty. It is   one of the most spectacular things you’ll ever experience!

When walking around in New York, it can be very tiring, I would advise that you wear comfortable walking shoes because they will ache at the end of the day. Fifth Avenue is full of a lot of shops and sights to see like Empire State Building, the Flatiron Building and Central Park.

These photos were taken on the top of the Rockefeller Centre/Center, you are taken up seventy floors in a lift, when you’re in the lift, if you look above you are able to see yourself quickly ascend to the top. Once you get to the top, you are greeted with breathtaking sights. There are thick glass windows that block you off from falling but there are gaps, just the right size to fit your camera lens, so that there isn’t an annoying reflection in your picture. You can then go up two floors to the top of the building and take as many pictures as you want, panoramic pictures are best to take from the highest point of the building. On one side you can see the Empire State Building and in the far distance the Statue of Liberty. Opposite is Central Park, on the top deck you finally come to realisation as to how big the park is. I did find it odd that there was a huge park in the middle of a busy city, regardless of the fact, it’s still a great place!

The Bubba Gump Shrimp Restaurant is a real place and it is situated in the middle of Times Square as is the Hard Rock Cafe, McDonalds and many other places to eat. You can purchase some clothing items in the Bubba Gump Shrimp Restaurant and Hard Rock Cafe, beware you are going to one of the most famous cities in the world so don’t be surprised when your bill is a large amount. You are visiting an incredible city, going there could be a once in a lifetime opportunity so do enjoy it and go wild because you may only visit the city once!

As you all probably know, New York is the city that never sleeps and it’s true. If you stayed there all night, you could stay awake without any trouble. It’s weird to see the sky pitch black but yet you’re surrounded by exhilarating lights at night! New Years Eve  is unbelievable! The moment the ball drops, confetti is released, everybody is full of delight as we all turn over a new leaf and begin fresh by starting it off in one of the best cities in the world. Overall, my experience was great there and to anyone that could go there, should go!

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing the pictures and reading about my experiences. Hopefully, you all should experience something like this in your life. It’s those moments in your life, that you have to cherish whether you travel alone or with loved ones.
